To get magic armour you need to go to the Malo Market, or whatever it's called (the one with the small child behind the counter) and pay the chap inside 1000 rupees to fix a bridge. These payments don't have to be in one go if you don't have the 1000-rupee walet.
Anyway, once you've done that a bridge will be built (between west hyrule and the field) so go and see your new bridge and chat to the goron you find there. He'll say something about wanting springwater.
So... warp back to Kakariko and then if you talk to the old goron outside the Malo Market thingy and he'll give you some hot springwater that you have to run over to the bridge you just fixed as quickly as you can.
I suggest running as close to the edge of the cliff as you can and occasionally dropping it to kill enemies as this way you'll just encounter less enemies.
If you make it to the bridge in time you have to give the hot springwater to a goron there. He'll roll off somewhere and then come back to set up his springwater shop in hyrule and give you a heart-piece.
Well now you have to go BACK to the Malo Market and give the guy inside 200 more rupees and there will be a new Malo Market in Hyrule Town!
If you skip the springwater mission i just described i hear that you have to pay 2000 rupees for them to open the shop and not 200 so it's definately worth it :P
Now that they've opened their shop go and visit it in the west side of the central market area of Hyule Town and you can buy the armour for 598 rupees.
The magic armour drains your rupee count very quickly but you don't take damage. I haven't yet found a practical use for it yet but it's probably good for the Cave of Ordeals.
Hope it was helpful :)

i used the magic armour for like to second after i completed the game because i only had a 600 rubee wallet, leaving me with about 2 rubees.
are you still invunerable after the rubees have run out and just made to walk everywhere, or not?
do you know how fast the armour eats your money? (roughly)

The armour drains your money at about 2 or 3 rupees per second. And more so if you're hit (depending on the severity).

Like squisher said it *is* usefull for the Cave of Ordeals - but only for the more tricky INTENSE battles where you're likely to be hit a lot all in one go like the Ice Men / Icy Blast monsters (whatever they're called).

VERY usefull then.

And I *so* wish I had the 1,000 wallet before I completed the Cave.
