Star point for VC points

Recently, Nintendo revealed that these star points would be redeemable for Virtual Console points, but the conversation rate was not yet specified. However, German mag N-Gamer has apparently uncovered the secret, and come up with a less than satisfying rate: 4 to 1. Since DS games are occasionally offered for around 4500 star points (DS games are typically around 45 Euros), that means approximately 100 star points per Euro. This amount of star points, under a 4:1 rate, would purchase 1125 VC points. If you simply used 45 Euros to purchase VC points directly, however, you could get over four thousand.

Yeah, it sucks, but at least it's an option if you've got nothing else to grab. Be sure to grab it soon, too: Nintendo Europe has recently stated that star points have an expiration date of twelve months.

Hmm, I wondered what the point of the Star points was really. I wouldn't want a crappy ringtone or wallpaper for my phone so they seemd useless to me. So, being able to trade them in for VC games would be excellent for me :)

Occasionally they get games and accessories in the star catalogue but usually for ridiculous prices and in very meagre amounts. The Zelda Collectors Edition disc for the GC was made available on there a while back and caused uproar because it cost something like 5,000 stars - given you get 250 stars per game that equals about 20 games worth of stars for one compilation disc than you can bet cost Nintendo next to nothing to produce. Assuming you paid around £25 per game, that's about £500 worth of points. Also, you only get 250 points for a console, so if you factor in a DS/GC/Wii purchase into that price, you're talking a lot higher.

It's taken me years to accumulate a decent amount of stars and now they're putting an expiration date on them. Nice way to reward loyalty Nintendo.

If my points expire before Nintendo allows me to exchange them for VC points, I'll be pretty annoyed.
