sorry for the dumb question but how do you know what your friends code is?

SuperJario

No problem mate basically if you go into your wii messages inbox then onto address book it will be on the first page of that. But as you open the address book it will automatically flick to page 2 so then just flick back to the first page and your friend code will be there.

Hope this helps.

Ive noticed a few people have needed to ask several questions on the topic Wii friend codes so just to make the forum a little tidey post any questions and answers in here.

Some people have asked where to find there own wii friend code.
Well it can be found under your own wii message inbox, then under address book and then is located on the first page of your address book.

You can only send Mii's and chat to one another only if you both have eachother registered & registering to be activated can take upto 20 minutes or so to work.

on the wii menu, click the bottom right button, then out of the 2 buttons on the bottom left, click the one closer to the right, then click the page on the left called the address book, the first number that appears is your own.

Hi everyone....I see people are exchanging codes, what is the point to it other than sending Mii's to each other and Messages. Surely this forum is a better way to communicate with loads of Wii addicts :?

well eventually it will lead to being able to play people in your address book in online games... also seeing other peoples miis is fun :)

Playing others online is something I'm looking forward to, just a shame they never made Wii Sports an online game.

wouldn't online games have some sort of lobby to show others with the game who are online? I think only being able to play people in your address book would be annoying

Hello everyone,

I have been thinking about the best way for wii find to have a wii friends list.
At present I have added alot of people from the friends code thread but none of the names can have messages or mii's sent to them (proberly due to the fact they have not added me) so here is my idea:

We have a sticky at the top of the friend code forum that says something like "Wii find friends codes"

In this thread is a list of codes from different people, this list should be no bigger than the maximum size allowed of a wii address book (I will find this out).

Everyone on the list MUST add each other failure to do so will result in your removal from the list.

If you want out , please let us know and you will be removed from the list and I will send a PM out to the other members to remove this person from your console.

If you want in but there is no space , check back regularly and a space may come up....
This list will be on a first come first served basis.

I would be happy to maintain the list, sorry for the long post.

Hello Zuzlufields, i think its a really good and very organized idea that you have come up with and am sure it will suit peoples needs. Do you know how much space is availble in the Wii addres book?

I would check..but im not at home at the moment so i'd be greatful if someone would check. Anyway we should wait for some feedback first on a few members to here there say on this idea and then take it from there.

Thanks again zulufields for contributing to this section of Wiifind and should be a successful and easy going task.

its greatly organised, but we have a potential 1000+ members, i know not all have wii's and not all are wanting to share their code, but even if we end up with each list with 100 codes on one page and we all add each other, there is the problem of already having other contacts from outside wiifind with wii codes.

i like the organisation maybe we could just have a the sticky topic with the updated codes on, and when you add someone make sure you pm before to ask them whether you want to swap or after to say i have you code please add mine.

Thats how it should work, I prefer it if members add me then PM me to be added on my Wii, works well enough, maybe not as well organised as suggested here

Ok Rob , that sounds good to me.

with 1000+ users, it could become too difficult and messy to look after my way

thanks for all your feedback

Hi Foz, your not missing anything, just need some help and help your get
Firstly you don't need to register your own Wii. That Add Wii Number is for the Wii number of other Wii's, so you would use that space to put in my Wii number for example. I would then add your Wii number to my Wii, then we could send each other messages and Mii's.
Secondly, to add the @ of the email address your trying to add, you need to press the Shift key, this changes the keyboard symbols.
Once an email is sent the friend needs to reply to the Wii's email for your friends email address to be registered for use on your Wii.
Hope this helps.

If you go into your wii message board, there is an address book. You have to "register" a wii friend by entering their wii number.

Before they become a friend though, that person has to enter your wii number in their machine.

So you should pm people if you enter their number, and they can enter yours!

i dunno if this is clear, but good luck. someone else might explain it better

most recent news from Pokemon release is that there will be a 'friend code' system almost exactly the same as the DS uses.

Yeah but they'll have a system where you play people from your address book and also just a random system where you play random people but the communication you have is limited, ie no voice or test communication. At least thats how i think they'll do it, thats what the did for DS for chances are wii will follow suit.

not wishing to be pedantic, but with the DS each game cart creates a new code each time it is used with a different DS. so if you have to buy a new DS you get a new friend code, if you buy a new copy of the game you get a new friend code. the code therefore is created by a combination of DS + game cart.

Unless there is a radical rethink at Nintendo, I think we will each have to enter a new code for each friend for each game they own, if we want to play online. Think about that for a while........ say 20 friends with 10 different games to play.......... thats 200 codes to add if I'm correct.

sorry, got to stop typing now, my wrists are aching in anticipation!

Thats correct, darn Nintendo have a chance to put things right but it seems they can't be bothered because online gaming is not the "speciality" as they say. We're be spending more time adding friends codes than we will playing the games
As Tom said you will be able to play random gamers but I guess there will be lack of features i.e chat.

even if i had to enter every bloomin' friend code for every game, having a lobby system would kinda make it ok........

I heard the online stuff on the Wii was going to be like XBox live but they don't enter stupid friend codes all over the place. Who knows what's going to happen?

article in a mag, can't remember which one (sorry, old person, rubbish memory!), about Pokemon Battle Rev that said the online battle system had been revealed and that it was VERY similar to the way the DS operates....

This is how the DS works http://www.nintendowifi.co.uk/global/index.jsp
It looks as if the Wii will operate from the same site.

I have 42ATC's and MK for the DS! Of the two online systems, 42 ATC's is by far the best as you either open a room for your friends to find or search for their room. You can then 'chat' with everyone OR a single person in that room...... with MK you have no choice as to who you will connect to, and can't communicate once you have. The other night 5 of us tried to get a 4 player MK on the go but kept getting 2+2 or 2+3. REALLY FRUSTRATING!

IMO the only way forward from here is to emulate the 42ATC's system whereby you have to enter friend codes, but then can choose who you play against rather than random allocation through the creation of rooms or lobbies. Its not perfect, but it is a usable system that is already in place (therefore costs will be lower to implement, and so more likely to happen than an entirely new piece of code) for the DS platform.

Obviously we mortals (and some immortals no doubt) can argue about the ideal environment for online play all day and night but ultimately there has to be a commercial advantage for whoever is hosting the exchange portals. Nintendo has made hard cash from the sale of every console from day 1 of its release. I just can't see them throwing large sums of money developing an 'ideal' environment when a perfectly usable one already exists. If you add into that statement this thought..... when questioned about multiplayer games, Nintendo execs always talk about the 'family in the lounge' model, not the 'across the internet' model. In their minds, the Wii is a replacement for Ludo or Monopoly, not MSN or AIM.

you have a very good point there captain, I'm a strong believer that videogames are a social thing, when I was younger, you would hardly ever see me playing a videogame on my own, I would always be playing multiplayer with my friends.

But this doesn't mean that Online play shouldn't be concentrated on, these days, times have changed, a few of my friends don't live near me anymore so Online play in a console is important IMO, playing online has been around for a while now on PC's, by now it should be a standard on consoles since so many households are getting Broadband now anyways.

huzzellio
14-03-2007, 05:19 PM
Online is important, I now have a group of friends online with PS2 as well as my friends offline. The friend code thing isn't too bad if you use WiiFind etc to get codes, make friends and organise matches.
