I thought I'd post my story about trying to get a Wii as it seems to make lots of people laugh when they hear it.

9th Nov 2006 Pre-order placed with Woolworths. My friends who I play PC online games used Woolies successfully when the were after 360's on release day so I thought it would be good for Wii' too.

7th Dec 2006 E-mail from Woolies telling me they had dispatched my Wii with the game I ordered, Zelda.

8th Dec 2006 (Friday) Took the day off so someone was in to receive delivery (and so I could play on it straight away). Nothing arrived.

9th Dec 2006 Nada, Niche, Nothing. Starting to get worried, I order a lot online and most couriers deliver within 3 days of dispatch. "It's OK" I thought it will deffo be here on Monday.

11th Dec 2006 Took the day off work. Oh dear! Still nothing but to top it off Royal mail post Zelda through the letterbox to tease me :) I use the woolworths online help request thingamybob to ask them to check where it is.

14th Dec 2006 No reply from Woolies and no Wii. I can't find a phone number for customer support so I call the Woolies group head office. After choosing lots of numbers I get through to the online ordering customer support. A guy there tells me to wait till Monday as there is a backlog due to xmas etc. I reply that no courier I know off takes 11 days to deliver something. "Ours sometimes do" I'm told !

18th Dec 2006 No Wii. I call customer support and ask to speak to a supervisor. Promised a call back before the day is out. No call came. Oh the online help request thingamybob returns a response, " we are trying please call us for help"

19th Dec 2006 No Wii, No phone call. I call again to be promised a call from a supervisor. No call by 5pm so I ring them again and demand to speak to a supervisor immediately. Finally get a supervisor only to be told that if I had arranged it earlier they would have sent a replacement earlier but it was too late now as they were out of stock and couldn't get one to me before xmas if they did as their courier takes 5-7 days to deliver! I explained that I had been calling for over a week and had never been offered a replacement. At this point I demanded a refund.

20th Dec 2006 Went on a 3 hour drive around Doncaster, Leeds and called in at white rose shopping centre. No Wii' although I did see the last one been sold to a kid in Game at white rose :x As a bonus when I was walking into the shopping centre a woman passed me pulling something out of her bag, as she does it she drops something to the floor, looks like a note, I shout her and pick it up for her only to realise as I present it back that it's actually a panty liner

21st Dec 2006 Went to York and Castleford retail park, no Wii but the Game store at castleford were getting small amounts for pre-orders with 1 or 2 left over I'm told to try again in the morning.

22nd Dec 2006 Called Game@cas at 9am "yup we are getting 9 Wii' in this morning but there are 8 people waiting in the shop for one. I jump in the wifes car and thrash it down the motorway to find I'm the 10th person to arrive and they are all sold  "may be some tommorrow" I'm told "best come and wait in the shop at opening time (9am)"

23rd Dec 2006 Drove to Casvegas and stood outside the Game at 9am. "no deliveries today mate" :x  T top it off my credit card bill arrives and woolies haven't refunded me. By this point I'm really angry. I call woolies. "but it's been delivered" they say "we have a signature" someone called Fletcher is supposedly have taken it even though I was in at the time of the delivery. After explaining that it is a fake signature and the unit is probably on ebay at that very moment being sold to fund the posties xmas I'm offered another refund.

Interlude: Was I the only person nobbed off with those selling Wii' on ebay with pictures of 15 or more boxes stacked up when I couldn't even get one after putting lots of effort in?

A Wiiless xmas passed.

29th Dec 2006 Still no refund from woolies.

A Wiiless New Year.

2nd Jan 2007 Called woolies. "where's me refund?" I ask. "but we've delivered it" they say "we have a signature" At this point I seemed to have blown a gasket and don't remember much apart from me raising my voice and demanding to speak to the supervisors supervisor. "but we've discharged our part of the deal by delivering it, we have a signature" they say. "you haven't discharged it to me though have you" I reply. Promised a refund.

4th Jan 2007 e-mail from woolies telling me the refund was being processed. Nearly a month had passed before they finally gave me MY money back! Never use woolies again as long as I draw breath.

12th Jan 2007 Still Wiiless still looking.

Well I hope that cheers some of you up who are still Wiiless like me. Things could be worse, you could be me

That is the saddest story I've ever heard. You should get your Wii, you deserve it. Hope it happens for you soon.

sorry to hear that m8.

well for me it might sound worse, about the 2othdecember i bought a wii from ebay, the auction ended at £240 with £15 postage with 3 games, sounded good to me.
Paid up straight away through paypal, the seller said hew would send it out via dhl next day, next day arrives and no wii, the seller said they didnt collect it from his house so he was going to send it via royal mail.
I replyed and said ok but only if it is via special delivery.
To this day i still havent got it, he wont reply to my emails, i filed a complaint through paypal but they cant give me a refund due to him not having any money in his account.
What a mug, i knew i shudnt have bought it like that but i wanted one so bad.

Now i am lucky enough to be waiting for a delivery from gamestation, fingers crossed :D

Thought I'd update...

Still not got one

Only one I've found so far was in Toys-R-Us at Clifton Moor estate York but they wanted £280 including Zelda (Which Woolies did manage to get to me) so it was useless to me. Hence I refused to buy.

Toying with getting a PS3 to keep me going untill I finally manage to get a Wii

Toying with getting a PS3 to keep me going untill I finally manage to get a Wii

I was gonna suggest pre-ordering a PS3 from Woolies, your get it quicker than you will a Wii

Bad jokes aside, its a heart wrenching story that brought tears to my eyes......from laughing so much

Don't give up Agner, check here every hour and you will get one before the month is up........fingers crossed.

After reading this, it reminded me of the problems I have had with mail order over the years. I really don't think it matters which retailer it is, it is down to luck of the draw as to whether you get any kind of service from them.

Although I know it wasn't meant to be funny, it was as I can see myself ranting down the phone for a supervisor etc.

I have to say that releasing the Wii 2 weeks before Christmas was always going to cause manic shoppers / parents particularly as there was / is such a shortage. I wish Nintendo had released at another time of year and then we would all have our sanity (well a little bit anyway) and 'normal' blood pressure :D

Update: I got one ! :)

I had to resort to ordering one from Amazon.de as they had loads in stock it seems.

The only issue I had with it was the euro plug which I chopped off and fitted a UK one and two small leaflets in german (they didn't seem to be important). Otherwise, as those of you already in possesion of a Wii know, there is no noticable difference. It's set to english as standard and you get to choose your language etc during the setup so it makes no difference.

As an added bonus the exchange rate makes it £10 less (£169) and that's delivered. Ordered it on Sunday and it arrived Thursday.

Thanks for the support folks and gl to those still looking, hopefully my post might help.

As for the console..fabulous. Had my mate and his wife with their 2 boys around today and we all had an absolute scream just playing Wii Sports.

Just choosing my moment as to when starting Zelda. Might need a couple of days off work..

Signing off,

Agnar.

Were soooo happy for ya fella. Sounds like your mate and his family a great time with the Wii. I still love watching people play on my Wii, especialy my sisters kids. I guess we'll here from you during the week when your not spending every spare minute on the Wii. Let us know what you think of it.
