Nintendo may develop free wifi hotspots for nintendo 3ds
Nintendo recently announced the “StreetPass” feature incorporated into it’s upcoming 3DS handheld system which allows users to download data from the net without even playing a game title. Whilst it means big ideas for developers, Nintendo have mentioned within a recent Investor Q&A that international gamers may well be with a slight disadvantage since deficiency in WiFi hotspots.
Nintendo had originally looked into incorporating a 3G sim-card system, not unlike the iPad but decided users won’t pay a monthly premium. While SpotPass is avalible via home networks, Nintendo have scored partnership is to do with WiFi companies in Japan to get going “Nintendo Zones” from where the 3DS definately will connect freely and instantly in the wireless service.
Nintendo propose to have 2000 of these free WiFi zones positioned in Japan by March 2011, even rolling them in the market to McDonalds stores. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced the firm is desperate to introduce such zones in america and across Europe;
“We must have enough savvy to offer clear-cut why the overseas users to be prepared to carry around Nintendo 3DS while they leave the house. Although you'll find not comes to a conclusion on whether we must always explore the potential for sites such as Nintendo Zone, like our collaborations with NTT East and NTT West, should control the entities which are usually offering free Wi-Fi access points, resolution desperate to proactively expand the access points guaranteeing that a rising amount of people through the U.S. and Europe can also feel that it must be fun to carry around a portable gaming device wherever they go out.”
