some friends and i were reminiscing the other day about the glory days of arcade before every machine had either a gun or steering wheel attatched to it! (much to my dismay )

so thought i'd start a thread about our old favourites and which games we spent the most money on

mine would have to be

salamander (bloody hard shoot-em-up)

wwf wrestle fest (god i spent a fortune on this game and tracked it down on mame recently )

final fight (was amazed when i found this machine on holiday and gutted when i got back to find my mates playing it already down the local fair lol)

silkworm/wonderboy (went ski'ing with the school and this was in the hotel basement along with wonderboy! spent a fortune and had to que to play lol)

TMNT (four player) (first arcade game i comlpeted )

daytona usa (yes it had a steering wheel but 8 player games in newquay were epic )

just a few games off the top of my head be intersting to see what everyone else was playing!

ive posted this thread up elsewhere in the past and always got us older members talking about the good old days of arcade8)

My fave ones back in the eighties were...

Battlezone....Early 3d game where you viewed through a periscope style viewer

The original Donkeykong...Where the barrel rolled down and Mario had to jump it..

The Space invaders type game that was built into a table..You
got them in pubs...

I've always enjoyed the games with a steering wheel attached and the old glory days were no exception with Outrun being right at the top of my list.

Other cracking games I have enjoyed over the years would have to be Spyhunter, Street Fighter 2, Ghosts and Goblins, Track and Field, After Burner, Virtua Racing, Paperboy, Chase HQ, Operation Wolf and Final Fight.

Once upon a time people used to go to the arcades to see new cutting edge technology but of course these days home consoles are ahead. So now the designers have to come up with a peripheral based game just to offer some sort of alternative

Never really played many Arcade games, even when younger. Though I'll admit that Outrun was one of the most memorable that I did play. Brilliant :)

Does anyone know the name of this game.....??
It was a racing game and the viewpoint was looking
straight down onto the racing cars..

The race cars were all tiny and the tracks were
things like a breakfast table with plates and cutlery
and a snooker table with balls on (possibly)

I've googled my description a few ways now but
still come back with nothing..

As far as I can remember the graphics were quite good
for the time..
Possibly early nineties..
Can't remember what system though..

Good game but I can't blooming remember
what it's called...help..lol..:-D

(not really an arcade game though..ooops)

Thanks guys!! You've reminded me of a personal fave from the Gamecube days. Micro Machines is an absolute classic. There were stacks of tracks, options, time trials, characters and vehicles. Another one that has just been added to my Amazon Wish List!!

It was brilliant driving up a spoon and leaping over breakfast bowls :D
