For my birthday/christmas i have asked my parents if can have an xbox. But i was wondering if you guys could help me out to find the best deal/price. I've looked in diffrent places. amazon,ebay,play.com,game etc. But i don't know which one to tell my parents about.
I'm not looking for an xbox elite or an arcade which means i'm looking for the 60gb one. Any help will be greatly praised. Thanks....

It looks like all the sites are around the £164.99 mark for the 60gb. I did see a PES bundle for £184.99 which gives you 20 quid off the game.

That was at http://www.shopto.net

I'd personally get the £164.99 console (from Play or Amazon) and then get a used game from Game or somewhere.

Thanks Huzz for that. I'll show my mum that. I did look with my mum in game at one that was quite good but i'd like to see what you guys think.

Depends where your router is. The XBox has a wired connection as standard, so if your router is near the XBox it isn't a problem. If the router's miles away you'll need the wireless adaptor which (as people have already said) is about 50 quid.

how longs the lead:D the xbox will be in a different wing of the mansion...er...a different upstairs room i mean, can u get an extension lead?...thinking about it the router runs off cable, so i dont think its got any more room as a pc is already plugged in to it. my laptop and wii are running wirelessly off that:confused: bloody hell an extra £50? im not getting a bundle deal anyway all the games are rubbish:o

TBH I would rather go for a bundle with the 60gb preminium. There you wouldnt have to build uup it good for your money and you get silver membership free live and 2month gold i think:p

The laptop still needs a connection to your router/modem as well as a connection to you XBox. If your laptop uses a USB modem and has a free ethernet socket (or simply has two ethernet sockets) then in theory yes!

It requires you activating Internet Connection Sharing in Windows.

Junior
25-11-2008, 11:15 PM
So that mean that if I use a wireless router which my laptop uses. I can just plug in the Xbox Ethernet to the laptop and bam Internet on Xbox?

huzzellio

If Internet Connection Sharing is enabled then yes. I did try this method once and didn't get very far (admittedly it was a PS2 I was trying it on).

Here's the instructions though:

I have to say all this talk of 360 is so not on....BUY A PS3 INSTEAD :p
You get everything in the box, no hidden extras to go wireless and the online is free. Just think that after 5 years on the 360 you'd have spent another £200 for online gaming  For the little extra you pay for the PS3 you also get a blu-ray player ;)

huzzellio
26-11-2008, 01:42 PM
Ooops, looks like someone woke the PS3 fanboy :p

Let me tell you a little story about the 'free online'. When I borrowed a PS3 off my mate I had to do a system update. It took an hour to get to 50% and then failed! After downloading for a second time (which took an hour and a half) I tried to download some demos. It took an hour and a half to get to 11%.  You then have to wait a further 5 minutes while the demo installs. On XBox the game downloads and that is it.

Never had a problem like this on Live. Even the 'New XBox Experience' update which completely changed the XBox dashboard only took two minutes to download. You get what you pay for you see :P

The blu-ray is VERY good though, I'll give you that. I suppose it depends on whether the HD movies are important enough for you. Personally I'm not that bothered with blu-ray at the moment and I've not seen anything gaming wise that the XBox doesn't already deliver. I've now given the PS3 back and was unimpressed to be honest. I wanted to like the PS3 I really did, but I didn't. It was disappointing.

my turn :p

I know the system updates can be a pain but at least it shows Sony's commitment to developing and improving the PS3's interface and usability. As for the installs, yes a pain but then at least you get less ingame load times than you get on the 360. True the free online service may not be perfect but its free and reliable.

True that at present there is little difference in the games, though sometimes the 360 version is slighter better because lazy developers find it easier to port the games from the 360 to the PS3. As it stands at this time developers are still struggling to get to grips with the PS3's cell processor, but its getting better. Sony have Gods of War 3 and Killzone 2 out next year and word is these games are far superior to what the 360 can do, though this only matters if you're a graphics whore :D

To be honest, if you lent me your 360.....you wouldn't get it back because I'd probably enjoy it as much as the PS3 ;)

I don't doubt that the PS3 has the ability to produce better graphics, I just doubt developers will upgrade the PS3's graphics if their game is to be released on multiple platforms. Unfortunately, most games are multi platform releases. Time will tell and I hope the PS3 improves. I hate to see lazy developers!

As for the installs, I played the 360 and PS3 versions of Mirror's Edge. I couldn't see much of a difference in load times to be honest.

I have to say though, I found the interface (X Media Bar) horrible to use. I'm sure Sony will improve things with future update, but having full game installations mixed in with game demos in a big long list? Not very user friendly.

This sounds like I hate the PS3 which isn't really accurate. The blu-ray is good, the machine is quiet, looks great, is reliable and has the ability to produce better graphics. I just still felt underwhelmed by the experience.

I know the 360 isn't perfect. It hasn't got built in wireless, it suffers from RROD and sounds like Heathrow Terminal 5 when you play games. But for all it's faults I still come away feeling more satisfied. They're like the Alfa Romeo's of the console world lol.

As long as people enjoy whatever platform they have that's all that matters.:)

The XMB is poor, though it is getting better as the updates come. Its a bit late for you but you an tell your mate that you can create folders for your game, movies and music so you don't have these long lists you speak of. So if you highlight a game then click the triangle button you can edit the info box and that will allow you to group items by using the square button. ;)

Aaaah top tip! Yeah I'm sure the XMB will improve, it's just a bit of a shock when it's usually organised for me. This highlights another point actually. With Microsoft having a PC background and Sony having a console background, it seems strange that the PS3 acts more like a PC (organising files, game installations etc), and the 360 acts more like a console! You'd think it would be the other way round.

Tis very true, I wish the PS3 could try harder to be a console though because Sony are trying to hard to capture the PC gamers market with all this Virtual worlds and MMO's they have coming out, its all getting very geeky lol

Not just the Elite but any 360 with enough hard disk space. It was part of the big system update last week. I installed CoD 4 to my 360, it took about 5gb and the process took around 5 mins. It's worth doing because it decreases loading time and means you don't hear all the disc noise that usually goes on.

Just reading on your little xbox vs ps3 debate. I'd have to say online service is seriously better than ps3. I play the ps3 on my bros alright he has 2 update so I think it wont take long so he updates. Leave the room and do something else like watch tv downstairs...I get carried away and watch a full episode of simspons which is half an hour. Then I go to myself Oh ****!! My bro and ps3 so I went up stairs and still saw it updating on like 60%!!!! Wii and 360 would only take 2-5 mins to get to 60%

Which is why I think 360 ppaying for live is a bit worth it. Also contrubututing making the xbox improved.

Reason why Im considering a ps3 though for xmas is the fact that most my mates have oneand all playy online which i wanna do. Its free, an pretty fun online.

Just one thing...My bro never got one but what is the headset for Voice communitcation on ps3
