Nintendo's denied reports that it's no longer catering to the core market with as much enthusiasm as it used to.

"That's simply not true," the company's UK chief David Yarnton told MCV (http://www.mcvuk.com/). "Nintendo has never lost it's passion for core gamers.

"Nintendo would like to bring smiles to as many different faces as possible and produce games which appeal to mainstream and gaming audiences worldwide.

"We have never neglected core gamers," he insisted. "We still have developers working on popular core game franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years.

"These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams."

I don't mind what games the Wii gets so long as they are great fun to play. World of Goo is a great example of what makes a good game, simple yet very addictive :D

I'm just happy that at least the third party developers are starting to come through with some quality games, like any new system it takes a while for quality games to come through and after watching the video Junior found -HERE- (http://wiifind.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3393&highlight=future+wii) it looks like (if not from Nintendo) next years games are looking good. We've all read and heard about the rumours about major franchises being worked on, so at least its nice to hear it from Nintendo themselves, they've not had a quiet year this year to be fair to them though

If they really cared they would make a new pikmin instead of a remake!!

Agreed. Nintendo are still falling back on the old mascots like Mario,Zelda etc it would be great to see someone new one on the scene than the same old.

I don't think he quite means that, what i think he means is that nintendo have been coming out with just mario and zelda, the new kirby is garbage and we haven't seen pikmin or starfox for just 2 examples. What we want is that wii kirby game that was suppose to be released 2 years ago! Then there's pikmin 3 and a new starfox needed. Not to mention a multi-player metroid.

im always up for another mario title no matter how many we've had over the years:D mario = quality usualy (which is more then i can say for other companys mascots these days lol)

im sure we'll have some great games to play over the next couple of years (old mascots or not:D)

How gutting would it be if Ninty stopped producing Mario games? We'd all sob into our Pikachu pillows let's face it. It'd be cool to have some new characters, but as Anthud has said, it's hard to just make a character that people will instantly like.

It must be difficult being truly original when every franchise is more or less a spin-off of another.

The news that they want to start breeding new ideas through core games is what gets me excited. Zelda in a new time-zone or with different weapons. Sending Mario into space has worked ... A futuristic Zelda anyone? ;)

I'd like to see more RPGs and adventure games hit the shelves.
Can't wait for next year :)

Remember what people said when shadow was given guns? it probably wouldn't work with zelda lol. Maybe a game where all the ninty chars were together again though. Not just fighting, maybe racing? Because Mario gets all the spin-offs like MK, party, football ect. Zelda just gets zelda games, same with kirby, metroid. They deserve there own spin-offs, some are just as good or even better than Mario, you gotta admit it.

Can you imagine - Kirby strikers charged. Legend of zelda: Link Kart. Metroid Baseball.

Or maybe just a karting game with them all in, or something like that. But even in SSBB mario is the center of attention.
