Do Nintendo deliberately make too few consoles, or did they not anticipate the demand? I read on another thread that some shop (Argos?) aren't likely to supply to people who preordered until March.

What possible benefit is there, except to the people selling them for over RRP on ebay?

my opinion (and this is only MY opinion) is that it is not a case of not making enough. I believe that there is a nintendo warehouse stocked up to the rafters with wii console's....
it is a matter of nintendo creating a supply/demand hype.
they use this to create more media attention, and advertising through word of mouth (people talking to each other about the product).
My son has been trying to get hold of one of the wii's since christmas, and it has become the focal point of every day since.
If it was down to me, I would have boycotted nintendo ages ago due to this supply/demand problem. lets be honest, if you had a leaking water pipe in the house, would you wait for one plumber for an indefinate amount of time, be it weeks or months, no you wouldnt. you would get someone else to do the job. nintendo have in effect a corner on the market, which means they can do whatever they like to the consumer and know that the demand will still be there for their product.
anyway, i am off out soon to go on todays search for a console with my boy, this is really becoming a headache.

In the end, though, I find it hard to see how it benefits Nintendo. They got plenty of press and hype well before the Wii came out, and continue to get glowing reviews now, for those who have managed to get one. This really only seems to do any good for those who are selling them on ebay.

I 'm not sure i agree with the idea that they've got lots in a warehouse idea. Most companies wouldn't want to make vast numbers of a product and then keep hold of them for extended periods, it's really expensive.

When you've made something you want to sell it as quick as you can to get your money back.. Deliberately holding back stock just causes cash flow problems.

I think the strap issue may not have helped as they are (presumably) changing all the straps in the ones already boxed.

I do think that Nintendo have dropped the ball a bit tho.. they should have done everything they could to get as many out as possible b4 the PS3 is launched. I just think it's more likely to be ****-up than conspiracy.
