Mario kart forum battle- recruiting

Alright you guys, we need some people for this battle between us, wiitalk and Gameov3r.

8 people would be best, now i know this might be a stretch :p. So if you know anyone who might be intrested go ask them!

there will be two 12 player grandprixs

4 players from each forum

the player who comes first will get 12 points second 11 and so on!

the grandprix will be for four races/one cup each player will have to note down there own finnishing positions

example hilly finnished

1st
4th
7th
3rd

when all cups are finnished we will have a swap around of players from both leagues to keep it fresh!

Right, thought I'd excavate this golden oldie thread ;) I've just been in conversation with someone from a rival forum who seems to think that this certain forum may fancy an inter-forum race night still. Do you think we could still do this? I've not seen or heard anything from Hilly for a long while, but if someone could track him down we could get this thing moving, especially as we have a few more members at present.

Anyone think we should do this, and kick some other forum asses? :D

The one I had in mind are of a similar size to this, and a friendly bunch. Think they'd be up for it. Any ideas on how it could work? I honestly don't think it'd be too difficult to do, bearing in mind people turning up on time! Lol!

And forgot to mention that this other forum are equally as obsessed with Mario Kart ;)

My favourite part of the game is when you get a blue shell, start accelerating, get another blue shell, start accelerating ... Then get 2 or 3 red shells up the backside. And if you're lucky you'll also get smashed off the course. Ahhhh, memories! Lol! :D

Will there be battles with scores for individual performances and then added together to give each forum their score? will it be a set number of Grand Prix's?, specified courses with deducted points for incorrect track selection? all these questions and more.....

No worries covey, we're working on it as we speak. They want to have some battles as well, i don't really see how that would work with the teams being random and all. They seem to have an idea tho.

I would just suggest doing 2 grand prix with random courses but we'll see.

Whatever it'll be i'll make a score chart per forum and per person.

Also this is a team effort now you guys, no hitting poor dry bones into pits this time around :p;)

Ok, i see how battle could work. Just go by the last scores of a best of 3 abd use the same scoring table as in a grand prix. So the one with the most points would get 12 points (if we used my score sheet atleast). (captain's idea btw)

In my honest opinion I can see all those working except the Team Battle, which I think may as well be omitted for the sake of another solo Grand Prix. But for the first time I'm willing to try anything (as I once said to a farmer). It's new, it's fresh, it's exciting, so I'm willing to go with the flow of this and see what works and what doesn't.

I'd be interested in hearing what everyone else thinks. There are another 9 people out there who should also have their say, so give us your feedback people, and we'll see what we come up with :D

Couldn't agree more. The randomised team selection is a pain in the posterior. It'd be great if you could create clans/groups on the game and automatically be inserted into those groups or whatever. You know what I'm saying, my brain's too tired to elaborate on that idea ;)

As I've mentioned, I'm happy to try them all. The points accumulation could prove to be a nightmare ... I'm so pleased Eric will be working those out! Lol! No doubt Gameov3r will have a trusty points scorer ... Just to make sure no extra points are being tallied elsewhere :p

Random courses, and the scoring for ties etc. I also agree with battling being half of the online stuff so i do want to give that a try and see how it goes.

I think it's possible to somewhat work as team in normal GP. (ofcourse as you mentioned, blue shells etc, unless you know who everyone is on the mini map:p)

I think a team GP would be....well more confusing than a normal GP. Don't get me wrong, i love team GP's, they're great fun. But i think they kind of defeat the purpose of a forum x forum situation.

BUT!!, as munkle stated, i'm all for trying everything out. Heck, maybe it's the best idea since putting icecream on a stick.

This is going to get interesting .. .. .. .. I've just added a link in the Gameov3r thread to this thread here. As this forum has full public access it would make more sense to have the agreed rules listed here where everyone and anyone can read them, then copy them ov3r to the other forum.

In every race / battle every competitor has to go all out for personal victory and then at the end the points can be tallied to find the individual and forum winner. There is no point in not attacking someone from your own forum in 3 Team events because you have no way of knowing how that will affect the overall positions apart from your own. Anyhoo .. .. .. I'm sure we'll be charitable and supply drinks and bar snacks after we win.. .. .. it is after all just a bit of fun and we're not taking it in any way seriously. Sorry .. .. .. got to cut this post short because the next training session is about to start .. .. .. :twisted:

Whilst I'm mentioning ideas, Skype voice chat would be a real advantage during this event, yes we could all use the chat room which is good for before & after each track/stage, but Skype could be used during each track/stage for tactics and real-time positions (for Grand Prixs)) and locations (for battles)....

Oh and do we have a start time yet? I don't recall reading one yet.....

If i saw a wiifinder in first and i would be in second...no i would not hit him/her in that case.

As for blue shells, i'd look on the minimap first. If i know the person in front is a finder i'd wait untill one of you guys is in front :p. Ofcousre if i don't know who's in front by looking at the minimap i'd just shoot it anyway.

I think Wiifind already have a damn good chance with this, seeing as Captain is playing his own races, and fighting his own battles ;) Lol! I jest of course. I can apprciate the glory (and advantage) of racing for yourself. But I'm too much of a sportsman to want to send red shells up my fellow Wiifinders bottom (despite enjoying the experience on our Tournament nights, and when they dress me as a matron on a Sunday evening after midnight :o ).

I see the logic of karts and bikes to differentiate between teams, but I'm not sure where I stand on this yet. Maybe a free-for-all would be best, and just keep your eye out for names.

It's a toughie, but surely these 'not knowing' moments are what's going to make it more fun :D

Sounds like this is well and truly on the way to starting then, I agree with evertyhing that has been said and I think in my opinion everyone should be allowed to choose either Bikes or Karts as everyone's different and everyone has there certain vehicle they are better in so if it's limited then the team is going to suffer points-wise as the team players have not got the option of the vehicle they are used to. (If that makes any sense whatsoever!!:p)

Also I think it should be normal racing no team battles or team grand prix's as you're randomly put into teams so therefore you would probably be in the opposite forum's team, which would make no sense at all!!

There we go, my input done and dusted anything else I think of, I will let all you Wiifinders know! ;)

My reference to Karts or Bikes relates purely to Battle mode and each forum would swap in the following battle to make it fair, the contest needs to contain battle modes to give a fair chance for all involved, some of us maybe better at battles than grand prixs, my opinion on the karts vs bikes in battle mode is purely to make it easier for us all to identify each other no matter which colour team we end up on, across a stage you can easily distinguish a bike from a kart, else you'd need to be close enough for the players name to appear... Ultimately it all depends on how the scoring is going to be calculated, as this will be a forum vs forum event, I guess each players score will be cumulated to give each forum a score, but for example if Munkle gets 10 points but has achieved this through unwittingly hitting his own forum team members on the oposing team, its great that Munkles got a high score but he could of sacrificed the forums overall score potentially......

Reading through the thread it would appear that a Free-for-All is the preferred choice, I just wanted to clarify why I think Bikes vs Karts would work....I'll rest my case and look forward to reading a start time and a full rundown on how this is being scored and which tracks/stages (if not Random) we'll be playing.

Suddenly it all makes sense, no my idea for the Grand Prixs is that each forum uses the same character, ie WiiFind members use Dry Bones for example and GameOv3r members use Mario making it easier to identify which forum is doing the best at a quick glance at the mini-map and also to help minimise on any Blue Shell damage to fellow team mates..... this idea I know could impact on players playability but could offer a level playing field....

Agreed. There are some great ideas out there (Covey) but for the time-being let's roll with it. It'd be good to have got the first night as a point of reference should anything require changing. After long deliberation we have decided these will be our rules:

1. Show up (dressed in extreme cabaret).
2. Rub down your vehicles (to make them feel special)
3. Chant the Wiifind motto 'we sought, we found, we conquered ... Glory Wiifind!'
4. Slap each other's thighs with celery sticks.
5. Get those engines roaring.
6. Race the race of your life.
7. Win.

Also, the sub-rules:

a) No nose-picking and no bogey eating (in front of rival forums anyway).
b) Specialist leather masks to be worn under helmets, and revealed only after admission into the Gameov3r bar.
c) No pre-race fighting.
d) No post-racing fighting.
e) No swearing, cursing or maiming.
f) No swimming.
g) Under 10's to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

I couldn't decide who i should let in, so i just went with who responded first

I don't think you've been excluded or swapped, everyone will get there turn but not everybody can be in on everynight, just because you're not in tonight doesn't mean you'll never be in,.... don't be too disheartened :)

eric did put the advert up so you should have asked about it sooner, your name wasn't on the first advert. Eric has organised it the best he can, its not his/anyones fault.... like I say everyone will get a chance to be involved in the forum battle... there's plenty more weeks :D

The more the merrier. This forum racing night turned out to run a lot more smoothly than some people may have first thought (including me, to be honest!).

So is another interforum race being arranged? If so, who will be racing? :confused:

Any ideas of when another one of these may be starting? They usually take a week or two to arrange, so if we start drawing up a list of interested persons and dates etc, might be good. I bet those who missed out last time are eager to fight for their forum ;) :D
