I've just ordered a component cable for the Wii so I can run progressive scan through my HDTV.

I know component leads make a difference to the picture quality anyway but can anyone tell me if it make much of a difference running progressive scan compared to interlaced scan?

From what I know progressive is superior to interlaced. With a 480p picture (which is what the Wii component cable will allow you to display in) the picture is made up of 480 lines which are refreshed every 1/60th of a second.

With interlaced only half the lines are refreshed each 1/60th of a second, the other half 1/60th of a second later - you only see half the picture each time but because its all happening so quickly our brains interpret it as a single image.

I've not received my component cable yet so not sure how much better its going to look but expect it to be a significant improvement. I've got an XBox 360 and was amazed at the improvement when I switched it over to 720p. I don't expect switching the Wii over to 480p to be quite as dramatic but it should still be good!

Cheers for the reply

You pretty much know what I know, I just wonder how bigger difference the extra resolution makes. Hopefully I'll see in a couple of days :D

Well I got my component cable this morning. Was idly flicking through the GAME website the other day and it said they had 10+ in stock so didnt waste any time ordering one (out of stock soon after...and still are now).

To be honest I can't see much of a difference....and I'm running it on a 100" projector screen so think I would notice if there was one! It does look a little sharper but it was nowhere near the startling difference I got when I swapped my 360 over to 720p.

Ah well, it's still nice to know I'm getting the best possible picture quality from the Wii!
