Anyone old enough to remember the birth of video games and home pc's will know what the C64 is. Well Euro VC will later this year be getting the back catalogue of all these old classics from this pc priced 500 wii points a game.

Classic game. I'd like to play Skool Daze again! lol! or The Incredible Shrinking Fireman ;)

500 points a games a bit steep. I'd have preferred to see a half dozen downloadable bundles, or 5 for 500 points split into genres. But then they'd probably lump all the detritus together.

One of my fave games was trashman, a game about being a bin man. Who said simulations were boring?

So you've always aimed high in life, nothing wrong with being ambitious :p :D

EDIT: forgot to add I was a Skool Daze fan and would have to buy that if it came out.

I've never tried mirroring my gaming ambitions with my real life ones, thank God! Can you imagine? have you ever wanted to be a moustachioed Italian plumber? Hmmm ... Sounds quite appealing really ;)

back 2 Skool was great too, but i don't think it ever appeared on the C64. Maybe we'll also see Spectrum downloads.

For a truly authentic feel, we should have to wait 10 mins while we watch a load of flashing multi-coloured lines onscreen. Once the 10 mins is up the flashing lines stop and the game does bugger all!! Rewind tape and try again!!!

Yes, funny thing was tape may have been an easy format to copy, the originals were so unreliable and poor quality that a copy was even less likely to work, how perfect an anti piracy format can you get LOL

I use to also buy the mags that were full of code, allowing you to type away for ours to produce a very simple "stick man" game, how easily entertained we all were back then :D

The game was about some bloke who had a party in his mansion and his wife was p****d off with him because of the mess. Well you had to go around all of the rooms in the mansion collecting glasses and bottles before you were allowed to go to bed. The bug was something to do with the attic room, when you entered it triggered off coruption in the game meaning you die instantly in other rooms.

I know you don't believe it but at the time this was cutting edge. We looked at these games in the same way that you look at games now.

In 24-25 years you will look back on todays games with your rose tinted specs saying how great they were. Then a teenager will say "man these games look weird lol, how can you get pleasure out of it?"

It will happen!

ben93
22-02-2008, 06:13 PM
will irt, i honestly doubt that because i dont think were gonna get much better, at least in graphics anyway, maybe soon theyll do fully motion sensitive maes where you wear a suit

huzzellio
22-02-2008, 06:16 PM
When we hit the graphical wall (which still isn't that close yet) developers will consider other ways to improve gaming.

Oh, and I remember saying "I don't think graphics can get better than this" lol.

do you seriously think were far from the graphical wall? i think were nearly there now, your not gonna get much better than ps3, after tht itll turn to processing power

huzzellio
22-02-2008, 06:21 PM
Don't get me wrong, I think graphics do look very detailed but I don't believe we are that close yet. It's funny, when I first got a 360 I though "jesus, that's realistic", but the more I play the more I can see that they're just graphics. When you really look at it, we aren't that close.

ben93
22-02-2008, 06:23 PM
well they can already mae characters look quite life like now, when you look at the people on the ps3 they look almost real, i admit that we can improve but i dont think we can have muh more of an improvement

huzzellio
22-02-2008, 06:27 PM
I think proper photo realism in games will come when they can finally put proper textures on surfaces. At the moment if you look at a brick wall in a game you simply get a flat surface with a wallpaper skin to make it look realistic.

When all textures finally have real textures then graphics will have truly achieved photo realism.

Unfortunately with processors hitting a development problem, I fear it's a long way off.

ben93
22-02-2008, 06:38 PM
i see what you meen with the textures, but to be honest photorealism in agmes would be really weird to me

huzzellio
22-02-2008, 07:14 PM
It would be a bit surreal but that will happen in the end :)

ben93
22-02-2008, 07:28 PM
it would make you feel bad as itll look like ure killing a real person in shooting games and itll have lifelike reactions

munkle
22-02-2008, 09:03 PM
I wouldn't want to see graphics photo-realistic, I'd rather there be a clear distinction between real-life and gaming. It's all becoming a bit too dystopian and cyber-punkish for my liking.

But, this thread has got me sooooo damn nostalgic. Treasure Island Dizzy, endless text adventures (The Helm, LOTR, The Hobbit etc) Hungry Horace, Frak, Head Over Heels (and various other isometric adventures). Paradroid.

Some great additions guys, particularly Emlyn Hughes and Stunt Car Racer. Loved those games.

In addition: It'd be great to have a photo-realistic game called Celebrity Ass-Kicker. I'd love to sort some of those self-indulgent *******s out.

huzzellio
22-02-2008, 09:11 PM
Yeah, Emlyn Hughes was one of my favourite games.

Munkle mentioning Treasure Island Dizzy (made by Codemasters) reminded me of another classic game by Codemasters:

Lol! Classic! I used to have something called the Graphic Adventure Creator, which enabled you to (believe it or not) create graphic adventures. Quite a cool kit. I remember trying to do a Bill and Ted adventure on it. Talk about copyright infringement! lol!

I'd tell myself I wouldn't want to play these games again, that nostalgia and reminiscence blurs things, that time and change mean we should leave such things alone ... But come on, these games really were great. And I think the best thing was that they made us use our imaginations more.

In my humble opinion anyway.

Anyone remember Creatures? Or creatures 2? By Thalamus I think.

Huzzellio, just noticed your Vernon comment and couldn't agree more. Or put a bullet in that freaky Winehouse creature ;)

Lmao! It's cos she's got the shakes, it must be hard to plug someone who can't stand still for more than a millionth of a second! ;)

Creatures were great games. The last one had graphics to rival the NES, seriously. Great stuff. I'd certainly recommend those if they came out.

Wonder what other consoles I'd like to see. Maybe Atari ST, Sega Mega-CD (Snatcher, for sure). Atari Jaguar, 3DO. The latter two were pretty decent machines let down by duff games. But there were some decent games on them. Alien Vs Predator on Jag was good. Space Hulk on 3DO I remember being cool.

I lost so many hours of my life to that game! The thing that sticks out in my mind is that it was the first footy game I saw where the goal kick went past the half way line lol. Pure realism ;)

I also like the way the keeper just collapses face first onto the ground rather than attempt to dive for the ball. The guy is either insane or drunk! lol!

Remember playing this back in the olden days? ;)

It's still one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard! lmao!

Lol! Online play? Really? That's awesome. I've just been watching footbag and some other events, forgot just how cool it was. It's tempting to download it but would it still play as well? These things are usually best off left to memory but ... ;)

Think I might be sold on this. At least I know what those star points will be going towards ;)

Thanks for the link, Local (not to say I didn't trust you anyway! Haha!) :)

I went on the Wii Shop Channel last night, and California Games is already available. No mention of online content in the description though. Very strange. Also noticed World Games is available on there, that was another classic if I remember correctly.

Is that the old classic version? May be they plan to release a Wii version
