Konami has confirmed that Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 will be arriving on the Wii in March, 2008.

So far, the main focus of PES 2008 on Wii has been on the baffling controls and whether or not they can possibly work.

Now though, more info has been given out that could divide opinions further. According to Konami, "The Wii game mirrors the real sport's use of open space and the exploitation of defensive lapses and accurate passes essential in creating scoring opportunities". Whatever the hell that means, we don't know.

More understandable is the point and drag system, whereby players use the Wii Remote to guide their characters around the pitch. Pointing at nearby players selects them to receive a pass or latch on to a through-ball.

Shaking the Nunchuk can be used to perform sliding tackles and send the goalkeeper out to clear a ball.

PES 2008 for Wii features six modes, and includes the obligatory RPG-lite experience point system, where players can upgrade their team members after matches and unlock extra skills. It supports Mii's and works online too.

Konami's bringing the game in today, so stay turned for some serious impressions.

Oh I really do hope they get the controls right for this game.. I can't understand the point and drag to control the players surely the most logical thing would be to use umm use the nun chuck to move your player...

Watched the vid on ONM website earlier. Don't know what to make of it. It doesn't look as smooth and fast as Fifa, passing-wise.

But we'll see.

i got pes on wii, wow takes some gettin used too, but u can control everything..get a bit hectic at times, but u can pull off some gr8 moves...and none of this passin to wrong person as can happen on fifa 08 at times..gotta go practice more..lol...

I've read a few reviews and the main gripe seems to be that the controls whilst defending are abit awkward. Is that true or not as bad once you get used to it?

O Tackling a player is a bit hard to do and get useto.

If you use the pull defence, you can drag players around. It makes it a bit more like normal defending, but Junior is right, it takes some getting used to!

How are everyone's Champions Road teams coming along? Mine is currently:

Abbondanzieri; Melchiot, Ayala, Mexes, R Carlos; Duff, Muntari, Pires; Van Persie, Totti, Anelka

Online is bettter than fifa the Lobby isntt as good aas fifa tthough. Yeah you still get aa lot of sore losers though.

I'd like to play this, is it much better than Fifa 08? The only thing putting me of purchasing this is that I don't really see the need for 2 footie games. Fifa 08 annoys the hell out of me with it's horrendous lag.

Unfortunately lag seems to be one of those things that is soooo much more noticable in footy games than anything else. That type of game requires pin point timing and quick responses. If some muppet decides to download **** while playing you it's game over!

That's the thing, isn't it? i started playing a game that the other guy had already won ten minutes before ... or something. But seriously, it's a shame they can't sort it out. I got kicked off Fifa so many times I couldn't build a decent string of wins, then you get negative stats, then I get p**sed off and shout random obscenities.

So this game's no better at all? Even a little bit? ;)

I'd choose Pro Evo over Fifa any old day of the week. The controls are so awesome alone.

You can set your settings in Pro Evo to only connect to players with better connections. I usually set mine in the middle (2*) and haven't had any significant lag issues.

Thanks for the info :) Might have a look at getting this. I do like the idea of the unique control system, and to be honest I'm not the most keen online player in the world so maybe that shouldn't really be an issue for me. But on the other hand it's always nice to know.

To be honest I don't think I'd be buying it anytime soon. There are other things I want first. If I see it cheap enough I may do though, depends how frivolous I'm feeling ;)
