It's not quite as bad as it reads. Japan are simply getting the version we've been getting right from the start. Rather than hardware inside the console controlling backwards compatibility, it will now be controlled by emulation software in the firmware.

Another cost cutting measure :rolleyes:

You can't play PS2 games but you can still run PS1 games.

Guess I be waiting until Sony releases their PS3 Slimeline with full backwards compatibility. You know it going to come one day........................
