Is it possible to have a button to go directly to each user's user control panel? or is there one already and I'm suffering from dumbness?

Click on the link to "Private Messages", just above and on the left hand side are all your links to your own control panel.

The 'Quick Links' dropdown also has links to edit your profile and preferences, and a link straight to your profile.
