Today is a good day! Amiga have just announced their upcoming computers:

Amiga holds a special place in my heart because my first computer/console was a Commodore Amiga 500. I still remember the day I upgraded my RAM by 1MB and Captain Planet loaded that much faster.

What was your first computer or console and what was your favourite game? Have you played it recently and did it suck?

The Amiga in my day was very expensive like the PS3 lol, I had a cheap and cheerful ZX Spectrum 48K. The games we're great fun but graphically under par, but it was these early machines that started it all off. My favourite game, well it was a long time ago and I hardly remember that far back but Jet Set Willy was great fun although totally impossible.

Its odd news about Amiga resurfacing, I was always under the impression they we're owned by Commodor who themselves have just made a comeback http://wiifind.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1377

I know that Commodore went bankrupt back in the mid 90s. According to ol' Wikipedia this is what happened:

"The rights to the Amiga platform were successively sold to Escom and later Gateway 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gateway_2000), but Escom almost immediately went bankrupt itself (due to non-Amiga related problems) and Gateway vacillated over what to do with its new acquisition. In 1999, an entirely new company called Amiga, Inc. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga%2C_Inc.) (no relation to the original Amiga Corporation) was incorporated in the US state of Washington, and received a license from Gateway to use Amiga-related patents and trademarks."

So is the new Amiga a bit of an imposter? The thick plottens...

My first computer was an Acorn Electron (it was like the old BBC computers they had in schools). It came bundled with games like Snapper (Pac Man really) and Hopper (that was just Frogger with a different name). I was 8 years old at the time and I've never looked back. 21 years of happy gaming :)

Ahhhh good old Sonic on the Megadrive, one of the few oldies that still feel as good to play today as it did about 15 years ago. There's not many games you can say that about, most old game we're just pick up and play games with no tedious story line to follow, arcade style games do tend to have a longer shelf life to most other genres. I still love to playthe oldies Bubble Bobble, Gauntlet and R-type on the Mame emulator.

Bubble Bobble,

Entering a rose spectacled moment I blissfully reminisce about the stack of coins that entered the slot of the arcade version of this. Ahh the joy, the fun, the poverty!

My wife is reading over my shoulder and would like me to add that I used to borrow money from her when we were dating to pay for this addiction.. .. .. I'm not going to do this though!

Back to reality..

Spectrum 16K won in a competition was my first computer.

Nostalgia! This thread brought back a myriad of fond memories, like playing Sensible Soccer & Cannon Fodder on the Amiga at my friend's house, and the Atari ST, it was on one of these systems i recall being introduced to 'The Secret Of Monkey Island', a game that would be perfect for the wii's sensory abilities.

My first computer was an Acorn Electron, with Asteroids as the first game (i think, though 20+ years of gameplaying has addled this wilted brain!)

Insult sword fighting on the Wii, gimme gimme gimme.

"How appropriate, you fight like a cow" and
"I am rubber, you are glue" (Ask an oldie for an explanation)

Brilliant series of games Monkey Island 1-4, got em all on pc. (ancient or what) lol

1st comp was Spectrum 48K, then onto 128K with built in cassette drive. (No more setting correct volume levels with that one)

Fond memories of the Amiga 500, especially Super Frog too.
(New nickname coming up "Sad Spark") :p

Ahhh, memories! lol! Fabulous games, i envy your PC games collection Mr. Spark.
True originality can be found in the most unlikely places, and looking back these computers had it in droves.
