View Full Version : Super Paper Mario bricking Wii's
Apparently the ntsc version has an update included on the disc which is bricking Wii's. when users turn on the wii a meassage appears saying that a specific file has not been found and they cannot get to the wii menu to format or do anything.
It seems as though it's PAL users who have chipped their wii that it has effected.
A lot of talk about it on this forum.

whoa nasty! Mind you I reckon it'd be not so much a brick as a pixies paving slab.

May I ask what exactly is meant by the term 'brick'?? I've never come across it before in gaming terms, cheers :)

It serves as a lesson fron Ninty not to mod your Wii with chips because their one step ahead

argh, so brick is a cleaner version of another word I shall not say here, lol.
Yep, given Nintendo have always strived to protect their products it seems they've found an even more technological method then just gamebit screws.

So you think they purposely did it to stop chipping? It won't stop it anyway someone will come up with something...and someone will possibly even find a fix for the bricking too. I suppose in some ways it serves people right for chipping their wii's, a bit harsh maybe. I was thinking about getting a chip too, but on second thought not at the moment
On another note, how come we have to wait for another 8 months or so for Paper Mario?

Oh, thats mad! Yeah they probably did it to stop chipping, but like Budtom said, someone will get around it.

I have read that the brick is caused by NTSC update to firmware version 2.5
If you update your Wii to PAL 2.5 BEFORE putting the disc in then it doesn't try to update and therefore doesn't brick your Wii.
I don't have a chip in mine so cannot vouch for this information personally. However the source is usually fairly reliable.. .. ..
