I bought one of those component cables to play wii on my HD tv last weekend, but when I try to play super mario world on virtual console it won't work, I have to plug in the old scart socket again.

Is there a way round this or does anyone else have the same problem??

I will get quickly fed up changing cables back and fore all the time..

it is a common problem!

My solution is to leave both cables in the back of my screen. Then, if I'm going to fire up an older VC title, I switch them in the back of the Wii.

Not a perfect solution, but for now the path of least resistance!

I found a solution on Wikipedia but it still won't work for me because my TV won't work because I can't access the Home menu. This leaves me with only TG-16 & N64 games that I can download and play, because I'm not going to keep messing around with different cable s just to get old games to work on my TV. This is not very good Mr Nintendo:(

PAL games over Component
Initially, some PAL Virtual Console games would not display correctly on high-definition televisions when connected via the component lead. However, starting with the April 13, 2007 update of the PAL Virtual Console, certain newly added games, such as Punch-Out!!, support the "Wii Component Cable Interlace mode." This is a temporary fix to problems with various Virtual Console games being played over Component Cable on HDTVs. The mode can be enabled by accessing the operations guide of the game, and (with the Nunchuk attached) pressing the buttons Z + A + 2 simultaneously. A sound is played if the mode is enabled correctly. Several older games also have updates available to enable the feature, including Super Castlevania IV and Super Mario Bros. The mode can be disabled by using the same method, but with the button combination Z + A + 1 instead.

My Sonic on VC has always played up. If you start a game from scratch (with no game saved to the Wii) it'll work but if you try and play with a saved game I just get a black screen with sound. Once I delete the saved game it works again. Crap system :(
