The big story from the US gaming press this morning is about how us European's lose out again. This time its the PS3 thats in the spot light. As if the pre-launch to this console hasn't had enough problems, its all about to get worse. Sony have announced in a press release that the European PS3 will not support PS2 games, to cut costs and speed up production. With the success of the PS2 over here, many gamers would be buying into the PS3 for backward compatibility.

that's really really really ***! ok so most people will have a ps2 to play their mammoth collection of games on, but do they really want their PS2 set-up alongside their PS3 in order to play them? that's just absurd!

Thats going to even more decrease the amount of sales PS3 will make in Europe, i must say they arn't making very good business decisions in my opinion.

They're being complacent, people aren't just going to buy that console just because it has Playstation 3 written on it. Work on it Sony and stop taking the p**s! Take a leaf out of Nintys book, now that's what I call thinking of the customer!

It's coming from Aussie land, they are also being ripped off as they're waiting for the release of the PAL system also :P
I was in game yesterday and a guy was asking about the ps3 he had pre ordered with them, he asked how much the games were gonna be. The guy working there said between 50 and 70 quid!!! The guy cancelled straight away.
I also think its coz stock levels are looking good and the ebayers know that they aint gonna sell.

It's absolutely crazy to pay up to £70 for a game, £40 isn't exactly spare change to be honest and £50 is bad enough. But £70, when the actual production of the disk and case will have cost a small fraction of that. Sure they have to work on a game for a while, but alot of the time game makers do a rushed job. They'll still be making an absolute sack load of cash i reckon, i think it's probably just another way to make more money...

Dumb PS3 fans are now questioning why the European model, which has now lost the Emotion Engine to cut costs, can still be more expensive than those already sold in Japan and North America.
Because Sony knows dumb gamers will still buy it
