I seem to manage it, but never sure how. Maybe I try to add spin to the ball as I hit it, like you have to when playing real tennis

Yeah, if you take a really over exagerated low to high swing and twist your hand back towards you it works. Its a back spin motion i guess. Top spin doesnt seem to work the same, just ends up being a lob!

I can top spin and back spin at will, but still not managed to curve one :(
I find back spin more prone to over hitting and going out or hitting the net though. That said, that stroke does seem to carry more pace.

Try doing the shots very gently in training mode. Hold the wiimote like you're about to punch someone with it in your hand. As you return lift your arm upwards and bend the hand backaward via the wrist. You'll find the ball does some crazy stuff now. Not sure why and i still cna't do it consistently in a match

I wrote a long-winded and drunken description on another site...
Here it is !
--------
Right. This will sound weird, but go with me
Start facing the TV, with the Wiimote held vertically in front of you, buttons facing toward you. Now turn your wrist 90 degrees anti-clockwise, so the direction pad is facing left.
If you want to swerve the ball, this is the position I start with when wanting to swerve doing a backhand shot (obiously the Wiimote isn't in front of my face, high, but lower by my hip as you would do normally)
The follow through is thus : the infra-red bit of the Wiimote will always be pointing left. You need to rotate your wrist as you hit the ball so that the buttons go :
1) Facing you
2) Facing the ground
3) Facing the TV
as if your flick your wrist toward the TV.
It's... er... hard to describe but this is how I do it. Give it a few tries.
If you want to swerve forehand, it's
Wiimote pointing so the infra-red is right (opposite to above), with the buttons facing the ground. Then rotate the wrist so that the sequence is...
1) Buttons facing the ground
2) Buttons facing the TV
3) Buttons facing the ceiling
4) Buttons facing you. (if you can do that)
Basically, it's like you turn the Wiimote as if it's fixed on it's horizontal axis.
And... just to clarify... had I not been drinking a rather large quantity of Jim Beam and coke tonight, this bizarre, and somewhat head-shaking explanation would never have been written.
Yours, with a sad 2088 rating of Tennis,
