This game for me in a definat must buy! Ive been reading alot about it in the Offical Nintendo magazine (which i bought today) and on various websites.

Most info on this new Sonic game stress that SEGA have had a massive load of complaints about the other previous Sonic games on the ps2 and x-box, people seem to argue about how sonic is completly changed which i agree with.

So what ive been reading so far is that SEGA have listened to gamers and decided to make this Sonic similar to the old 8/16 bit versions on the Sega megadrive.

Check these video trailers of Sonic and the secret rings and tell me what you think:

One thing which i just dont understand about Sega when they make new Sonic games is why dont they add the great/popular and classic Sonic theme tune that we all know.

The song and themes of a game is a vital part i rekurn.

dude nice vids.

the game looks wiked definatly gunna buy

yea the old songs ruled
will tales be in this version

SuperJario
21-01-2007, 06:24 PM
No i dont think so mate i read in the Nintendo offical magazine that it will be sonic only! The rock music in this game goes quite well but if only the good old tune was there then my god this game would be on fire!!

Jono
21-01-2007, 06:28 PM
ok tales is ok but he got annoying in sonic 2 on sega got in the way

rock music in the games is alright but it doesnt seem to suite sonic (well i think :) )

SuperJario
21-01-2007, 06:31 PM
Yeah exactly real actual music shouldn't be added to games unless its a game like GTA or something. If i get my SD card to work ill put the old sonic theme tune on there and then hope that this Sonic game will let you play your own music whilst playing.

Games like excite truck hve this feature.

Jono
21-01-2007, 06:33 PM
oo never new that it would make the game a whole lot better esspicaly (soz for spelling) if u can play your music with the game

SuperJario
21-01-2007, 09:48 PM
Yes it would,
Well ive started saving up for this game now so ill pre-order this soon, and ive already pre-ordered Super Mario Galaxy!
Ive waited for these 2 games for ages!!

huzzellio
22-01-2007, 08:24 AM
I've always loved Sonic on the Mega Drive and if this is a return to the classic gameplay, I'm there!! :D The theme tune does need to be added though, you're right about that. :?

SuperJario
22-01-2007, 05:29 PM
Yeah it would make the game amazing and would bring back some great memorys. That reminds me my mum found my old Sega megadrive II in the loft with about 40 games lol, might have to set it up and have a play.

Jono
22-01-2007, 06:40 PM
kool i stil got mine somewhere best game on it is sonic 2 :)

SuperJario
22-01-2007, 07:12 PM
I didnt like Sonic 2 but loved Sonic 1 & 3. I found a massive load of games with my Megadrive like Dunne 1 & 2 and loads of other adventure/action games but couldnt find my favourite collection of games like Sonic 1,2 and 3, Wonderboy : In Monster World, Micro Machines 1 & 2, Earthworm Jim and a few others that i cant think of.

Shame i didnt keep my Nes & Snes!

Jono
22-01-2007, 07:14 PM
ahh earth worm jim and micro machines and sonic bring back memories

i found sonic 1 really hard lol cud never get past 2nd lvl :)

SuperJario
22-01-2007, 08:43 PM
Haha yeah it was a very challenging game, although i quite love challenging games. I might go to my local Gamestation they have a massive basket full of Old sega games going for £1.50 each.

Anyone still got a Sega-Master System?

the vids for sonic on the wii look like fun, classic sonic gameplay but in a 3d platform world, brilliant.

I still have my Master System II with the first Sonic game :D

I'm looking forward to Secret Rings, and apart from Sonic Rush, will be the first decent Sonic game since the Mega-Drive games. I think because of the Wii's controllers and perhaps the fact the Wii isn't as powerful as the 360 & PS3, it's caused the Sonic team to have a major re-think and caused them to go back to Sonic's roots, hence why this game is causing a stir and is set to be vastly superior to the 360 & PS3 Sonic game (which is total pants by all accounts). Yet another reason why not having the biggest engine under the bonet is the better way to go ;)

SuperJario
24-01-2007, 05:17 PM
Also i heard that SEGA have been getting loads and loads of complaints about
the sonic games they have been making on the 360 and playsation. So maybe they've decided to listen to everyone and make a good classic fun and exciting sonic game again.

mattman81
24-01-2007, 11:25 PM
The general feeling was that prior to Secret Rings (let's hope), Sonic just hasn't been able to cut it in 3D, unlike Mario. I think this is down to the type of game Sonic was even in it's 2D days, basically a super-charged platformer, where completeing a level in 30 seconds was about average.

I'm glad though that the Wii Sonic looks to be a return to form, and the irony of it being on a Nintendo machine, lol.

SuperJario
30-01-2007, 09:48 PM
Yes it will be interesting to play an original SEGA platformer game on the Nintendo Wii, but i have a very strong feeling that no Sonic game ever again will beat the originals on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis.

I suppose Sonic was just ment for 2d gaming - Or maybe this new Sonic will prove me wrong! (I hope so!!)

Will see, im really looking forward to this game now and it does look like it will be released before Super Mario Galaxy. I dont know if i should save my money for Galaxy or just buy Sonic im not sure.

mattman81
01-02-2007, 02:29 PM
I think Sonic should be released early March, Super Mario Galaxy wont be with us until the summer, so defo buy sonic as you should have plenty of time to save up for Mario.

I think Sonic 2D will always be king, but I think this will easily be the best 3D Sonic game.

nooo stop it with these sonics already the megadrive ones were the best 8)

dylan
01-02-2007, 08:17 PM
I downloaded sonic on vc and i love it. never owned a sega machine or had a 3d sonic, though i have tried a demo of one on the xbox. I think this game will have to prove there's still some life in this series.

SuperJario
01-02-2007, 08:35 PM
Midnightstalker your absurlutly right, not any sonic game no matter how good the storyline is no better how atristsic the graphics and characteers may be it will never beat the Megadrive seris of Sonic the hedgehog.

Sonic on the dreamcast wasnt to bad, but ps2 sonic ang x-box is just completly stupid.

Seeing as Sonic and the secret rings has had rumours about it that it will bring back a great classic feel to it it may be a good game, but again will never beat the Megadrive seris.

Preeching is now OVER! lol

odhranus
02-02-2007, 09:21 AM
well the game reminds me of the mini games in the earlier sonics where you had to run down them big pipes and get as many rings as possible, from the vids I have seen of the game in action it looks to be a fast, crazy game so I think it will still have the sonic feel to it.

If anyone's interested theres a writen interview about this game between Ign staff and Sonic and the secret rings director "Yojiro Ogawa". Pretty interesting if i must say.

http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/761/761723p1.html

Also id like to add that from all the trailors ive seen of this game the gameplay looks great along with graphics but i really really dont like the sound of the kindaof "Rock music" as the background music of the game.

They should have just used cartoony type music like what Mario games use, it really makes the gameplay of a game even better than it already is.

More video clips of Sonic and the secret rings, god knows why theres so many video spoilers for this game. Hadrly none for galaxy.

Notice vid 2 "Sky Surfing and Missiles" when Sonic gets hit, he flashes just like the old sonics.

I don't think nintendo want to give much away with mario, same goes for resi evil, brawl and some others. It's very quiet when it comes to videos characters and storyline knowledge, maybe nintendo just don't want people knowing too much until it's out on the shelves.

I wish Sega would just stop with all these new Sonic games and go back to basics. Cut the 3D stuff and do the original. Make a 16/32 bit Sonic The Hedgehog 4, carrying on from Sonic and Knuckles. Every Sonic fan wants it.

I'd like them to release a 2D version of the game, but in 3D if you know what I mean? like New Super Mario Bros on the DS

Onm had fat loads of info on it and its really got me excited now. it also contains a massive load of Mini multiplayer games on the new game aswel. and 8 characters are available to usre in the multiplayer game 4 are already unlocked and the other 4 need to be unlocked. They say they are keeping the unlockable 4 a secret until its released.

Oh and the music has definatly been confirmed and i dont like it "Japanease Pop/rock music" as Onm like to descibe it.

The game opens as Sonic is mysteriously transported to the world of The Arabian Nights where he encounters a mystical genie, Shahra. Shahra pleads with Sonic to save her world from the powerful evil genie, Erazor Djinn. As the story unfolds, Erazor confronts Sonic and pulls him into his evil plans. Sonic has a limited time to deliver Erazor the seven World Rings and save the storybook world. Navigating a world full of obstacles and enemies, from Erazor’s genie minions to dinosaurs, players use a bevy of core moves to keep up the pace. Holding the Wii Remote horizontally, players tilt the controller left and right to control Sonic's signature speed. They jump, perform sliding stops, pull off wicked homing attacks with a snap of the controller, and even walk backwards with a tilt of the Wii Remote. Players also hop aboard winged pots and fly with a vigorous shake of the controller. They launch themselves from catapults with a whip of the Wii Remote, surf through rapids on tree trunks and even pilot flying carpets in the race to restore this storybook world before all is lost. Players navigate 100 missions within eight wildly varied worlds, gaining new moves and abilities along the way. As players progress through the game, Sonic's abilities can be strategically equipped based on the demands of the mission ahead. From a boost called Speed Break to an ability called Time Break that slows the world around him to a near stop, Sonic needs every trick in the book to make sure Erazor Djinn stays in the storybook world. In addition to the single player adventure, Sonic and the Secret Rings offers 40 mini-games that support up to four players. Showcasing the abilities of the Wii Remote, players will use the controller as a violin bow, an ax, a canoe paddle and dozens of other motions to compete in these easy to pick-up-and-play games. [Sega]
Average score 7/10

it is certainly fast paced and back to the way sonic should be.
Music is damn annoying though but don't let that put you off.

SuperJario
07-03-2007, 04:23 PM
Exactly! the music is just so anoying.. why didnt they use music similar to zelda games, mario games and old sonic games? Any real music with people singing/rapping sounds crap of cartoon style games personally.

Does anyone like the music on Sonic & The Secret Rings?

mattman81
07-03-2007, 10:31 PM
I've heard that about the music. A shame because in my book Sonic 2 from the Mega Drive days had (and in many ways still has) the best music committed to a video game.

The thing that puts me off most about buying this game though is the slightly sloppy controls I've been hearing about. Does it improve significantly when you unlock some features later on??

budtom
10-03-2007, 11:08 PM
Just Completed Sonic and the secret of the rings today. Absolute awesome ending i'd recommend it to anyone who likes fast action adventure games and boy does it get fast. Sometimes incredibly annoying and tricky too, last boss is a hard enough but so satisfying. I did it in about...five days? So didn't last me that long but i do generally burn through games and theres still alot of things for me to unlock such as special moves, video clips, minigames, different sonic modes, characters and other goodies. It's crammed full of levels and awards for special completion. It can be quite hard to do some levels especially to get gold medals in some. It's good for the casual gamer and well as the hardcore because it's fun but theres also elements that the hardcore gamer would go for but the casual wouldn't.

Thinking about getting Final Fantasy XII soon for ps2, anyone got that, does it last long?

huzzellio
12-03-2007, 04:13 PM
I've heard that about the music. A shame because in my book Sonic 2 from the Mega Drive days had (and in many ways still has) the best music committed to a video game.
I reckon the best music in any game ever is Streets of Rage's music by a bloke called Yuzo Kushiro (think that's how you spell him)..amazing stuff! He did the music in the sequel and Revenge of Shinobi too.

I've just looked at the review on Gamespot about Sonic and the Secret Rings and in the 8th paragraph near the bottom it mentions the music. Do you get the feeling the music on their version was different?

Take a look:

SuperJario
12-03-2007, 05:34 PM
Yeah its ok. You can play it by yourself aswel its called "Party mode" on the game and i gave it ago on my own facing 3 computers. Its good because you have chances to unlock stuff. But haven't actually tested at how fun it is when playing with friends. I'm sure its double more fun with friends.

15-03-2007, 10:51 PM
I've had the game for just over a day now and it took a few hours of gaming to warm to it, but now that I have I think it's rather good.
I'm sure I'll have more to say later when I've played it even more, but the only real flaws are the unnecessary complications of adding unlockable special moves. I can see why they did it to give the game a bit more depth and tactical awareness, but it's a platform game and doesn't need it. Sonic should have all those moves from the off and they should keep it simple. The story is terrible too but I'll let that pass ;)

I really like the mission aspect of it, very Mario 64-esque but done with its own little Sonic spin (no pun intended).

Graphically very impressive too. Lovely textures and depth, and very fast and smooth. If this was running on a 360, people wouldn't think it was sub-par either.

Definitely the best 3D Sonic game yet, and the Wiimote works a treat. It just ups my anticipation for Super Mario Galaxy actually, knowing how well crafted Nintendo games tend to be :D
