Banned in the UK (http://wiifind.co.uk/blog/?p=177)
Rockstar Games is proud to announce Manhunt 2 for the Nintendo's Wii™. Manhunt 2 is the debut title from the newly formed Rockstar London studio, which is developing the game in conjunction with series creator Rockstar North. The Wii™ version is being developed by Rockstar Toronto. Manhunt 2 will be available this summer.
"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. "We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds." [take2games]

I had the first one on PS2, its a sneaking round, lure your victim then kill sorta game, I'd expect you'd be using the wiimote & nunchuck to replicate strangling someone with a plastic bag.

i had the first one on xbox, i liked it. Especially the voice through the headset encouraging you to kill. Doesn't really fit with the current crop of wii games but it's nice to know that Nintendo will be catering for a more adult audience too. I can see this making full use of the wii's controls too. I'd like to see Sega bring a new version of Condemned to the Wii too, i could see that being a winner, swinging a baseball bat or plank of wood at someones head with the wiimote would be superb.

Didn't they try to ban the first one, something to do with the murder of a young kid.

i think it was the classic case of someone played the game and then went out and killed someone so they tried to ban it. But lets face it if you go out and kill someone after playing a computer game it was only a matter of time, because there must be something wrong with them in the first place to be influenced by the game.
My conculsion: Theres nothing wrong with violent games

Excellent news as I had the original Man Hunt. I hope the graphics on the Wii version are not disapointing as Rockstar have developed a recent reputation for poor graphics.
As for the stories about the game being the reason for the murder of Stefan Pakeerah, those rumours were quashed as the murder was connected with robbery.
Also it was the victim who had the copy of the game not the murderer

I think Rockstar produce good graphical games, but have a bad rep for poor control systems and heavy media backlash. Manhunt 2 will no doubt make the headlines, and the potential of using the Wiimote for all sort of unsavoury things could stir things up to no end.
I think the Wii version will probably be the same as the PS2 version but with better textures and of cause a better (in theory) control system. But the main thing is that Rockstar are making a game for Nintendo, which would never have happened a year or two ago
Can only bode well for the future I feel.

I had (and still occasionaly play) the first one on PS2. Its an amazing game, the atmosphere it creates is incredible, and unlike other stealth games there is a genuine element of fear (for me personally, at least!). I'm so excited this is coming to Wii, games like WarioWare are fun but its good to see Wii isn't being overlooked by third party developers.

This is the kind of game I used to put the playstation brand down for.
It was more for the insinuation from their camp that was a mature sort of grown up game when Zelda was not, whewn obviously Zelda is a game for a more mature person than someone who seriously thinks splitting heads open makes them sophisticated.
It bodes well for variety if nothing else.

Further news to the release of this game shows that the makers are freaking people out. They have sent out letters to the gaming press supposedly from the same hospital as featured in the game.........heres the evidence: http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/media/2007/02/rockstarletr4.jpg

News of this game has gone a bit quite since the threat of a court case to stop its release but now the official box art for the game has been revealed plus a few extra details about the game:
http://media.arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.media/Manhunt%202%20Wii%20Box%20Art%20FINAL.jpg
An experiment at a secret research facility has gone catastrophically wrong. Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper are the only surviving subjects. The Pickman Project will stop at nothing to hunt them down and stop the truth from getting out.
Demented screams echo around the dank asylum that has caged you for the last six years. You open your eyes. A white-coated body slumps to the floor through your shaking hands. A bloody syringe slips from your arm. Waves of confusion and paranoia crash over you. You have no idea who you are or how you got here.
The door to your cell is open. One choice. One chance. They took your life. Time to take it back.

Ngamer has always been a great read, since NGC/N64 Mag and back beyond the realms of memory.
When i think of some of the horror films i've seen over the years this game looks pretty acceptable. The asylum screenshots remind me of some Doncaster nightclubs! lol! Joking, i'm allowed to say that ;o)
Has the ban been lifted on this or have rockstar games changed the game slightly to pass the censors. Play.com seem to have it on pre-order with a release date of 31st Aug.

Latest update 1st August 07
Rockstar appeals Manhunt 2 ban
Video Appeals Committee to determine game's fate.
Update: Rockstar Games has confirmed it has filed an official plea with the Video Appeals Committee seeking to overturn the BBFC ban of its Manhunt 2 game.
According to MCV, Rockstar filed the plea yesterday. The BBFC originally rejected the game on June 19th, giving Rockstar six weeks to file an appeal.
"Where possible we try to consider cuts or, in the case of games, modifications which remove the material which contravenes the Board’s published Guidelines. In the case of Manhunt 2 this has not been possible," said BBFC director David Cooke at the time of the ban.
The Video Appeals Committee will now hold a hearing where the BBFC and Rockstar will be able to present their sides of the dispute, and where the committee will view demonstrations of the game itself. The BBFC will not comment upon the matter until the case is heard.
Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. confirmed today that Rockstar Games has appealed the BBFC decision that prohibited the release of any version of Manhunt 2 in Britain.
There was no immediate word whether or not Rockstar had also appealed Manhunt 2's "AO" rating in the US, although such a move seems likely.

No, the unedited version is already been banned in Germany and ireland.
Banning the game here would break the regional law which considers adults capable of making their own decisions which games they wants to play, unless it contains illegal materia. And there is currently no unified EU ratings system.
But it's still illegal for people under 16 to buy it.

The BBFC has rejected a revised version of the video game Manhunt 2. This follows the rejection of the original version of the game in June. The distributor had set in motion an appeal to the Video Appeals Committee against that decision, and this was suspended while the revised version was considered for classification.
David Cooke, Director of the BBFC said:
“We recognise that the distributor has made changes to the game, but we do not consider that these go far enough to address our concerns about the original version. The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient. There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the ‘execution kills’, but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature.
“We did make suggestions for further changes to the game, but the distributor has chosen not to make them, and as a result we have rejected the game on both platforms. The decision on whether or not an appeal goes ahead lies with the distributor.”

As far as I know BBFC stands for British Board of Film Classification so I guess it mean UK releases only. And I think the uncensored version is still coming to Holland; so you can always send me a copy of the game threw the post. :D
